The West Liberty-Salem girls cross country team will be collecting socks, hats, gloves and scarves October 10th-14th for those in need in our community. The home rooms collecting the most items in the elementary, middle school and high school will receive a pizza party.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- After finishing in 56th at the UNA Invitational, Megan Adams (West Liberty-Salem HS) was named the Gulf South Conference freshman of the week. Adams ran the 5K race in 18:01 to come in 54th. She helped the Lee University women's cross country team earn a seventh-place finish at the North Alabama Showcase.
The Lady Flames, ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division II, placed three runners in the top 40 on their way to recording 204 points. Alabama was the top team with 73 points, while Kentucky was right behind with 78. Georgia Tech (110), Auburn (125) and Kennesaw State (189) rounded out the top five teams. Southern Miss was just ahead of Lee in sixth with 196 points. The Lady Flames will be in action again on October 1 in the 21st Annual Live in Lou Cross Country Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky. The 50th Annual Ohio Caverns Max Evans Memorial Invitational is set for Saturday, September 24th, 2022. The day kicks off with the Big Orange Alumni 5K and Youth 1 Mile Run starting at 8:00 a.m. Both races are open to the public. Registration is at the link below. Race day registration is also available from 7:00-7:30 a.m.
After the Alumni Run you can support the state ranked Big Orange cross country teams. Race Schedule: 8:40 a.m. High School Girls 9:20 a.m. High School Boys 10:00 a.m. Middle School Girls 10:30 a.m. Middle School Boys After the races, we will be celebrating our Big Orange seniors, Owen Harrison, Michael Jones, Chandler McCafferty and Micah Smith. Finally, make a day of it with a tour of the Ohio Caverns. Go Big Orange! Last week, the West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team hosted JET Track and Field Camp. Athletes from Bellefontaine, Ben Logan, Graham, Marysville, Triad, Versailles and West Liberty-Salem participated in the camp. The camp coaching staff included camp director, Ralph Jones of Jones Elite Training in Charlotte, North Carolina, Matthew Murphy, Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field at Alabama A&M, James Daniels of Daniels High Performance in Jamestown, North Carolina, Ann Vogel, West Liberty-Salem Head Coach Girls Cross Country and Track and Field, Tony Mascadri, Mechanicsburg pole vault coach and Nate Bratka, West Liberty-Salem throws coach. “The JET Track and Field Camp is an excellent opportunity for local athletes to improve not only their track and field skills, but their skills athletic skills for any sport without the expense of an overnight camp,” said Ann Vogel. “We’re thankful to have D1 and professional coaches who have worked with some of the best athletes in the country, right here at WLS coaching our local athletes.” West Liberty-Salem track and field student athletes, Megan Adams, Mallory Bostick and Ashley Yoder received OATCCC Academic All-Ohio honors this weekend at the state track and field meet.
The award is given to student athletes in grades 10-12, who compete at the state meet and have a GPA of 3.5 or above.
Qualifiers for Saturday's finals are Sophia Hardwick (17.37) and Alaina Irving (17.45) in the 100 meter hurdles, Delaney Jones in the 100 meter dash (12.70) and 200 meter dash (27.28), Sophia Hardwick (49.66) and Claire Longshore (50.06) in the 300 meter hurdles, Megan Adams and Ashley Yoder in the 1600 meter run, Mallory Bostick and Ashley Yoder in the 800 meter run, the 4x200 meter relay team of Lilly Weaver, Claire Longshore, Mandilyn Weaver and Sophia Hardwick (1:55.38), the 4x100 relay of Lilly Weaver, Delaney Jones, Alaina Irving and Mallory Bostick (53.03), and the 4x400 relay of Mallory Bostick, Megan Adams, Teagan Boyd and Delaney Jones (4:16.90).
Isabella Hardwick had a career PR in shot put (29'5.25") finishing 12th and Kenzie Bahan placed 13th in shot put (29'5). Tiger freshman Delaney Jones set a new school record in the 100 meter dash, running a 12.49. Her mark breaks the mark set by Morgan Freyhof in 2015.
